Look, its an Update!!!!

Share
Birthday '09
Wow! Its been a long time since I posted anything here. I was actually reading through some of my old entries, and they are so disjointed due to so much time between them. Oh well, nothing I can do for that now, so I will move on, and really try hard to do better from now on. :)

Anyway, seeing as it is November, I am planning for my annual after thanksgiving potluck dinner for friends. It is going to be just 2 weeks from today, and it came up really fast this year. I even thought about putting it off a week, but it wouldn't feel right, so I am just going to step up the cleaning up of my house so that everything will be perfect by then. I bought all of my tableware for this year's event today, so I'm getting really excited about it.

In other news, I realized that I never posted about being rehired at Calvert Woodley with a regular weekly schedule and an actual paycheck. That happened just over 3 years ago, but I wasn't in posting mode then, so I forgot to mention it. I am currently working a fulltime schedule at this job and taking a break from my schooling, because I just had too much going on with school, work, and taking care of my Grandma. Sorry. I know most of the people who read this journal know about all of that, but I wanted to have it in here for accuracy's sake.

Speaking of my Grandma, on Tuesday, November 3, I came home from a pretty long day at work to find her at the bottom of the steps leading downstairs with a broken ankle. :-( She was taken to the hospital where they kept her for just over a week. Now, as of Friday, November 13, she is in a local rehab/nursing care facility where they know better how to deal with the issues that come up with a woman who is almost 100 years old. The doctors at the hospital were talking like she will be there for the rest of her life if we can't get in home care, but I am not sure that will be the case. I hope not, anyway. The trauma of the fall has made her less able to process things around her, so the hospital docs seemed upset with my Mom and me for letting her stay home by herself like we were, but I know that she was fine to do so until now. We are hoping she will be able to attend her 100th Birthday Party in 4 weeks, and the nurses at the hospital thought she would, but I don't know if her change of location will make a difference on that or not.

The last bit of news that I have is that I am currently dating my ex-boyfriend, Peleg, again. A major part of the reason that we broke up approximently 7 years ago was due to parental pressure on my end because he is Jewish. Anyway, about 3 months ago he found me on Facebook, and sent me a message, and another, and another. I finally messaged him back on October 15, a couple of days after his birthday. We messaged back and forth for about a week. Then he suggested we talk on the phone or get together to catch up. I decided that it was a good idea, so I gave him my cell #, and he called a couple of nights later. We had a really nice chat and decided to get together for dinner on Wednesday, November 4. He chose the Cheescake Factory in White Flint, because we had eaten at the one in Friendship Heights quite a bit when we were going out before. I thought that was really sweet, and I enjoyed seeing him again. We got together the following Sunday for a hike that was supposed to be in Great Falls, MD, but we were too late, so they were full. We ended up going to Brookside Gardens in Wheaton instead. Fter walking around the nature trail there, we went to his place and watched the dismal Redskins game, and he took me home. I saw him again last night when we had a nice casual dinner at Savannah's in Kensington and rented "The Ugly Truth" to watch at his parent's house, since they were out of town for the weekend. I have invited him to my potluck in two weeks, and he thinks he'll be able to make it, so that should be fun. I guess we'll see what happens from here. ;)

Okay, I am going to sign off now, since this got really long. Sorry. I hope to be able to post again soon. I really don't want my next entry to read quite like this one, and it will if I don't get better about updating more frequently. :-)

Got a silly little Halloween Spirit Quiz emailed to me, so I decided to take it. ;) The results were really quite accurate for me. Maybe it will be so for you as well. :)

Hard to believe that in just 12 hours I will be picking up my turkey for tomorrow's dinner!  I hope everything turns out the way I want it to.  It is especially important to me, since Kevin is going to be here, and he's never been to a party that I had upstairs.  I've got to do some extra vacuuming tomorrow so the rugs will be as fresh as possible.  My Mom took care of mopping the kitchen and the entrance, and my Grandma, bless her heart, did the bathroom floor.  It is going to be odd having a party like this without my Mom being home, but she said it was okay.  My Grandma is also not planning to attend the party, since she told me she wants it to truly be just me and my friends.  I'm going to take her a plate of food after everyone has gotten their first helpings.  She also wants to be sure to see Daniel, Kelly's 6 month old son, and I'm sure that can be arranged.  My big worry now is Misty, Mark, and the kids.  Most people who are bringing dishes are not aware that they are even thinking of coming, since they moved away.  Therefore, there may not be enough food, but I am not going to let it seem like that is my fault.  I did figure out what they can bring if they do call and say they will be here.  I'm serving wine, which obviously, the kids won't be drinking, so I will ask them to bring some sparkling cider for Leah, Nate, and I guess Ben.  There will also be soda, but I know that the kids, Leah especially, like to feel like they are having something similar to what the adults are having.  I also know that feeling, because I remember wanting the same thing when I was growing up.  Anyway, I just wanted to post my night before feelings here, and I'll update about the party Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

Thanksgiving '07

Birthday '09
First of all, despite the fact that it is late,

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

I'm glad today is over.  Although I had a good day, it was really wierd with my Mom visiting my Grandparents, her parents, in Edgewood leaving my Grandma and me here to out to dinner by ourselves.  We went to Boston Market in Gaithersburg, which was quite nice and different, but strange.  I still haven't gotten used to eating out on Thanksgiving instead of the big family meal.  I will say that it is a lot less stressful to not have to worry about all the dishes that are cooking and not figure out where my dishes are going to fit in with what else is being fixed.

With that said, I am really looking forward to Sunday when my friends are coming over for a potluck dinner that I decided to throw this year, and it looks like everyone is going to make it.  I'm not completely sure about Kevin at the moment, but I think he'll pop by for at least a bit anyway.  With all of the straightening and tidying up of the house that I have been doing this past week and a half, it is going to be nice to have tomorrow off from work to just finish up a few minor jobs around the house and then relax, get my nails done, and generally avoid all mall stores like the plague.

On that note, I drove past the Best Buy in Rockville tonight on my way to dinner, and I just couldn't believe that there were actually people lined up outside at 5:30PM for the sales that will start tomorrow morning at 5.  That is just crazy to me.  I did the overnight thing for concert tickets once with Kelly, and it wasn't worth it.  I'd never do it again, and especially not for a sale.  Sure I like to find bargains, but I won't give up the comfort of my bed to sit outside all night freezing my @$$ off to do it.  CRAZY!

Anyway, I hope that after Sunday I can get back on track with my weight loss, since I've drifted away a bit from my healthy eating.  For what ever reason this always happens to me right around Halloween, and I usually don't get back to doing things the right way until the start of the new year.  I'm determined to not let that be the case this year.  Most of what I have planned for the potluck is more or less healthy as are the dishes that being brought, I believe.  That doesn't count the pecan pie I ended up buying this morning before I knew we were quite possibly going to actually need it.  Oh well, even if I don't stay on track at that dinner, it is only one meal, and I'm not going to obess over it, since it is a party meant to be enjoyed.

Okay, I'd like to close this before Thanksgiving is officially over, so I'm heading to bed.  Hope you all had a great day.  As usual, I will say that I am going to try to update more frequently, but you all know by now not to hold your collective breaths on that one. ;)

Blast From the Past!

Birthday '09

Wow!  I just got off the phone with my old buddy Sam.  He's a guy I knew at the University of Maryland in College Park.  I hadn't talked to or seen him for at least 5 years.  About 2 months ago, I decided to see if he had a Myspace and found that lo and behold he did.  I sent him a message and a friend request, and he responded favorably.  However, due to both of us being very busy, we hadn't actually gotten a chance to talk.  Until tonight that is.  We chatted for about 45 minutes, which was very cool.  As it turns out, he also just got back in touch with another old friend of mine, Joy, who I haven't seen since my Dad's funeral in July '06.  Therefore, he is going to try to figure out a time for all of us to get together soon.  I hope it all works out, because I have really missed being in touch with Sam, and I have been wanting to reconnect with Joy for a while now as well.  Okay, that is all I really have time for now, but another update should be coming soon.  I guarantee it.

Wow!  I was just reading through my old entries it really hit me exactly how long it has been since I updated this silly thing.  I never even got to say how the Spring '06 Semester turned out.  Not to mention the rest of the classes I have taken since then.  Anyway, expect a real update in the next couple of days.  I have been wanting to get back to this for a while now, and I have decided that it is finally time.

Stay tuned. :)

Strange Day

Share
Birthday '09
Blargh! Today was really a typical Tuesday, except for the fact that I felt like it was Thursday almost all day long. Not sure why, but this has happened for the past two weeks, and it is starting to annoy me. Anyway, I actually woke up early this morning. Well, early for me at least. The plan was that I would load up my rough draft of my Position Paper for Writing class and put some final touches on it. However things didn't quite work out that way. I decided to hop into the shower first, fix myself some food, and then work on my paper. After my shower, I realized that I didn't want anything real heavy for breakfast which meant that there was nothing in the house that appealed to me. Therefore, I decided to watch the second half of the Angel episode that was on, since it was one of my favorites and then leave for school. I knew I could work on my paper during my long break after Music class. It turned out to be a good thing that I left early, because there was a lot of traffic on the route that I chose. It actually took me over an hour to drive what is usually 20-30 minutes. Of course, that includes a stop at Starbucks, missing my turnoff from 270, and putting $10 worth of gas into my car, but all of that did not add up to an extra 30-40+ minutes.

School was mostly fine. We finally moved on to the last chapter in Sociology; all about Family. Should be interesting. Learned triads in Music class, and they are not as hard to understand as I thought they would be. Weird guy who sits next to me in this class randomly flirted with me as he usually does, but if he is interested he needs to just ask me out, cause his strange flirting style is getting to be enough. Then, I grabbed a quick lunch at Wendy's and headed back to campus to finish up my paper. This turned out to be a bit more difficult than I had expected because I ended up changing the style and in a way the focus. It still states my position on the subject of physical fitness in schools, but I put a different twist on it. I hope it came out okay. Finally, it was off to Writing, and I was hoping to get my grade for the presentation I gave last week. However, the professor wants to make sure that all of them are done before she gives out any of the grades, and there may be a couple of people who still haven't given theirs. We got the guidelines for our final big grade in class today. It is to be a visual argument that we will then share with the class. I'm am not sure what to do mine on, since I am sick of discussing my research topic, but I can't really think of anything else that would work. Oh well, I have until Thursday to come up with something and get some materials together for it. Yeah, it was basically what I expected for my next to last Tuesday in the Spring semester.

My grandma and I went to dinner as soon as I got home. Nothing special, just McDonald's. Or more precisely, she had McDonald's and I had my leftovers from yesterday's lunch at TGIFriday's. Then, with my parents in Atlantic City, I got to just chill out and I decided to get on here and update. Definitely a record: 2 updates in two days. Not going to happen very often I'm sure, but it is nice when I can find the time. Okay, as my mood icon indicates, I am quite tired now, so I'm going hop off here and get some sleep. I'll probably watch the next to last episode of B5 before I go to sleep. rubialinda warned me that the last episode is pretty sad, so I don't think I'll let myself watch that one right before going to bed. Anyway, I'll post more soon.
